BBBBRRRRRRRR Its cold!

Hello everyone!
wow how the weather has changed! Its so cold. I wont post pictures of the snow here as its pretty much the same everywhere! We have had My littlest sister and her family staying for a few days. Princess has loved having a playmate and its been good catching up with my sister. Although going back to having a two year old in the house is a bit of a change!
So what have I been up to I hear you ask? Knitting mostly, with a bit of crochet thrown in for a change about!

I sent a parcel of to Preemies UK. A couple of blankets and lots of baby Hats for use by the special care unit in hospitals. From now on any Premature Knitting I do will be sent to my local Hospital.

Peppa pig made to order £15

I made the Peppa Pig for a little girl. Her Mummy ordered it for her birthday and I hope she likes it!
It turned out really good and I'm very pleased with it.

Crochet bag £5

On the knitting needles now are a Jumper for Princess, No make that two Jumpers for Princess! and Raa Raa the Lion. For those of you who dont have access to a two year old, this is Raa Raa!

He is a noisy Lion who enjoys having fun with his friends! Believe me after listening to the theme tune a couple of times you will be singing it all day!

I know, two posts in two days! Amazing isn't it!

Well i thought that i would show off my latest make.

Harrold!

Lovely ponytail

His name is Harold. I finally finished him and he is going to be a one off knit for me as it was far too fiddly!

At the moment my WIPs include a little tank/vest top for Princess kind of based on this one here
I got the idea from this pattern but I'm making the top up as i go along. Pretty much.

Also i am working on Mr Twizzle for my nephew here he is courtesy of Jean Greenhowes website
Ive knitted him up and now just have to add the extras.
I also bought some fabric to make my GD1 a patchwork quilt.

I haven't made her a quilt yet so I thought it was about time. I love the different shades of blue and I'm excited to start this. I cant decide on the pattern but i am leaning more towards the hexagon pattern.

Today will be mostly spending time with the family. I have promised to make Mr CM a coffee cake and Princess wants to help. Maybe I can get some knitting in tonight when I'm watching TV. Although Sunday night television is getting a bit drab for me. Bring back Downton and Larkrise TV executives please!

keeping things for best

Last week I decided to buy a teapot. Our eldest and his family had given us some Argos vouchers for Christmas and we had some left over do I thought id use them.
I decided on this one here

At that time it was £12.99 but you got a set of teacups and saucers free with it so I thought it was quite a good deal. That's until I got it home. The quality was terrible. Really rough edges and you struggled to get a decent amount of tea out of it. So back it went.
I thought I would look in Tesco or Asda when we did our shop. Then I decide to give my china a quick once over. Anyone who knows me knows how much I love my china! I have a lovely collection of vintage tea sets and cups and saucers mostly bought from charity shops and car boot sales. I was washing my teapot which is kept on the kitchen window sill and I thought "why not use this teapot?" "ooo no" I said to myself "that one is for best" ( I often have these conversation with myself or God when I'm poodling round!)

But when does best come around? Is it when rarely seen relatives come over? When old friends come around for a cuppa? I think that I am wonderfully and perfectly made (Psalm 139:14) Good tells me so, so I believe it! So every day should be a special day. A day for bringing out the best and using the best and being the best.
My first cuppa which enjoy on my own in the morning thinking about the day and having time just me and God. The second I have with Mr CM about 8am where we are rushing around getting things ready. Then the third we have together at around 9.30 am when princess and Son 3 have left for school/college the house is quiet and we have chance to talk. All those are special cups of teas. When my mother visits and we knit over a cuppa. That's a special time too.. When friends come over and we catch up on each others news, once again this is a special time.

So now my "for best" teapot gets used everyday!

Oh course this applies to other things (not just teapots!) Why not put on those shoes you have been keeping for best, give yourself a spray of that expensive perfume you have kept for special occasions.
Just make today the "best" day. Go on you deserve it!

A busy first week!

And here is why!

The Gruffalo! My daughter absolutely loves the Gruffalo. I may have mentioned it once or twice here!

She first discovered the book when she was about two years old. It has become a bedtime constant and now she reads it to us. We know all about his knobbly knees and turned out toes and his purple prickles! So when i found the pattern for him here ravelry I knew he was a must knit. So I got him finished and my nephew saw him. Now he wants one, then my brother-in-law asked for one for my niece. So now I am knitting no. 3 . Well it keeps me busy!

I forgot to show one of my makes from the week before Christmas. It was so cold and Poppy our little chichi dog was getting really cold. So I whipped her up a little jumper. I put it in her stocking Christmas eve. Please excuse the marks on the jumper. as soon as she had unwrapped it Princess insisted on taking her for a walk! Even if it was raining!

It was made from old odds and end yarns that i had left over from other projects so was the perfect stash buster!

its really cosy and Poppy loves it! She looks so cute in it.

I was blessed to receive this book

It has some fantastic patterns in. one of my favourites is the huggy bunny. I feel I will be making a few of those this year!

Isn't he so cute! I have been waiting to start him for ages! He is the town crier from the Jean Greenhowe knitted hedgehogs pattern book. I cant wait till he's finished!

Welcome to 2012

Hello everyone! Happy new year! I hope you had a blessed Christmas however you spent it. for us it as mainly spent with family. We made a visit to Mr CMs parents just before Christmas and then spent the day itself with our children and my two little brothers and their families.


well they are younger than me!

It was a nice day all round. My two elder sons came along with their families although Son No 1 had to leave after a hour as he was playing darts with my brothers and managed to dislocated his arm so needed to go to the hospital. Merry Christmas!

Family time is very important to me and I love being with my children and Grandchildren. The years have flown its only when I sit and look at them I realise how fast it has gone!

Sleeping at Grandmas and Grandads

New Years eve was a new one for Mr CM and I. We spent our first one ever alone with none of our children at home! We have never been without at least two of them at home and they were all gone! we enjoyed the time by snuggling up watching a film and eating choccies!

Princess has just discovered the Joy of having a sleepover. Last week I was saying to my sister-in-law how she wouldn't sleep out and Mr and I couldn't have any nights out etc. Then on Friday she announced to my brother that she wanted to sleep at his. she was quite insistent so we let her sleep. All the time we were expecting the midnight phone call to pick her up but it didn't come. She had a great time! Then last night she asked her big brother could she sleep there! First we couldn't get her to sleep out and now we cant get her home!

New years resolutions? I shall carry on with my Challenge 52 that I completed last year but apart from that I have decided to take things as they come. We are looking forward to the birth of our third grandchild and enjoying spending time with our other two granddaughters. I want to learn a new craft and also make a couple of Union Jack cushions for our sofa but i have all year to do that!

Christmas food shopping and finding bargains!

Hello everyone!
So today was the dreaded food shop! I had booked a delivery for today from Asda but Mr Cm decided we should cancel it and do our own! I was dreading all the pushing shoving and general greed and disrespect that goes on each Christmas time. The bulk buying of bread and milk as the shop will be shut for two whole days!
But I have to say that it was generally calm and Tescos had everything we needed. i thought it would be manic as we didn't get there till 11am but people were not buying anymore than they usually do on Friday it seemed. We had long ago decided that we would only spend the same amount on shopping as we do any other fortnight and we pretty much stuck to that, spending just £10 extra due to picking up a little something as a gift and some really very reduced cake mixes. Which brings me to these:

They were reduced to £2 and have the main ingredients to make a rich fruit cake. the fruit is pre -soaked in brandy and nearly blows your head off when opening the sealed packet! I have made mine tonight and its cooking away making the house smell lovely!
Ive bought four packets so i can enjoy them later in the year! In our house there is only my son and I who eat them so fruit cake lasts a while in a air tight tin!

Well tomorrow we have my brother and children visiting for hot chocolate and treats and then its the top to toe house clean! Tho the family have been looking forward this all week! lol! The four of us will be beavering away all day and then will sit down with our tea and watch Merlin. The perfect day!
Well if we get carried away with the cleaning and I don't get back till after the big day then I hope you all have a very good Christmas. Just remember

Christmas preparations

Hello Readers!
Well with just under a week till the big day I have been a busy bee here at Crafty-mum towers!
As you know I have been a little poorly this last year and so all my plans for a handmade/homemade Christmas have fallen short of my expectations but never mind. Over the last few weeks I have been beavering away making some items for our family. these include:

And I'm still knitting!

Princess and I have been busy decorating the house and making decorations. I will post some photos later in the week to show you what we have been up to.

Just to finish this post I will include a photo of princess all ready to go off to her horse riding lesson

She loves having her lessons and has already progressed into the next class after just a few lessons. She loves horses and always makes Daddy go a hour early so she can visit each of the 25 horses at the riding school. Poor Daddy comes home freezing now that the evenings are getting colder but i think he secretly enjoys it!

I have been inspired by the many and varied blogs I have been reading. there are some amazing crafters out there. Peoples creativity is something that still amazes me and I look forward to reading and learning from the amazing crafters out there in 2012.

Hello everybody
Seems once again I seem to have deserted my post here at crafty mum towers. I have been poorly again and my kidneys are misbehaving so I have just returned from a lengthy stay in hospital.
My plans for a handmade,homemade Christmas have gone drastically wrong. Infact im struggling to finish my only homemade gift of a cardigan for my granddaughter. However I am enjoying looking at everyones lovely crafts and praying for my health to be Restored in the following months so I can have a creative spree myself

CHALLENGE 52 COMPLETED!!!!!! and Finished hat!

Wow this is good. Two posts in two days!
So as you may have seen I have been taking part in the 54 week 52 item challenge. It was suppose to be make on thing a week for a year but Ive finished. I haven't always made one thing a week and have made more than one some weeks but its all levelled out and now, I have finished. The list on the right is not a complete list of things I've made as I don't always remember to write them down but it gives a insight into what I've been up to.

I finished the Hat I was knitting for Mr CM. I'm really pleased with it as I have only just learnt to cable knit and apart from a couple of pairs of wrist warmers this is my first real project.
Ive Knitted it using chunky wool and so its really warm and cosy and perfect for the winter evenings that seem to be coming in now. the pattern can be found HERE

IT has worked out so well that may make one each for my sons to go in their Christmas stockings.

Well time to start another project. What can I be tempted with on Ravelry!

October is nearly gone!

Well here I am again over a month from my last post. I'm still suffering with the effects of my hospital stay but feel better than i have for a long while.

SSSSSSSSoooooooooo What have i been up to? Well a bit of this,

A couple of pairs of cosy slipper socks for GD2. Ive made her a couple of pairs as she keeps kicking off her socks

and then a bit of this...........

My Daughter-in-law makes THE BEST choccie cake and shared her secret with me. So I had a go and added the strawberries as I couldn't resist! But i have to say hers is still better

Then we went to visit friends in the midlands and attend a birthday party. We had such a good time there. Cant wait to see them again soon.

The summer ending

Hello
If there are any reader left after my long absence!
The thing is Ive been very poorly over the summer and too weak to even think about posting.
To cut a long story short It all started with pneumonia and ended with septicemia and a burst cyst on my kidney. Fortunately I am on the mend and God is good so I know I will be fine.

So.......... crafting has been very limited. I am now on round 65 of my giant granny blanket. It now takes over a hour to crochet one round and super snugly so I look forward to finishing this over the winter with it tucked over my legs! My aim is to make it 200 rounds so that it fits right over our king sized bed touching the floor at all sides.

Princess started horse riding lessons over the summer and is loving it. Daddy takes her and they have to go half a hour early and come home half a hour after the lesson to allow her time to visit every one of the horses at the stables. She is fascinated by horses and on a rainy day she can be found in the lounge with all of her horses giving her barbies riding lessons! Its funny how this quiet and shy little one has now turned into a confident, thoughtful and chatty little girl. She really is a blessing.

I have a whole lot of things to post here of things from our summer so I will do so in a few posts rather than bombard all at once!
I hope you all had lots of fun and enjoyed crafting over the summer months. Its taking me a while to catch up and comment on others blogs so please bear with me and I'm sure I will get round to you soon.

My name is Cally Clark Traversari and I am a self taught artist from Birmingham, currently living in Wolverhampton. I have always been a creative person and have enjoyed art since I was a child. I have only just recently (March 2011) been painting and creating to sell, as I lost my job in October and needed something to keep me going when I wasn’t successful finding a job. Although I haven’t found a 9 to 5 I would now class being an Artist as my job. I know it doesn’t bring in a regular wage, but it’s much more rewarding as my creative business continues to grow.
I would desrcibe my work as unique, whimsical, vibrant, and most importantly affordable. I see many artists selling their work very expensive these days, so I decided to create affordable art for everyone, whether it be for their home, as a gift or their office space.

Growing a Giant Granny!

Happy Hippie July everyone!

Well once again I have been laid up with a rather nasty chest Infection which has egged on my Asthma leaving me quite poorly. I thank God for Mr CM as I have spent the weekend in bed while he has ran the house. (and a fine job he has done too!)
With that in mind I will be posting items I have made over the last couple of weeks put haven't had the time to post about. I have been so tired that for the last week I have been unable to even pick up a crochet hook as I have felt so rough.

I have been catching up on all the blogs Ive missed and Ive decide to join in with the giant Granny rug/blanket challenge hosted here. Its something Ive wanted to do one for ages and I really Fancy the idea of having a cosy crochet blanket over our bed on the cold winter nights. Why not join in? There's no time limit on the completion (although I have set the end of September as personal challenge)
So far I'm on 14 rounds and so have a fair way to go to make the required 200 round to finish!

I hope you are having a really good week.
the weather here in Sunny Suffolk had been not too sunny but, the storms have been spectacular! I love watching the thunder and lightening from my window. Such a beautiful sight! Also its a much needed natural watering for my garden!

Saying goodbye to a friend

Yesterday we said goodbye to a very good friend of ours. We started off as neighbours to Brian and his wife but quickly became friends. Although we were from different generations we got along so well and they both took my family and I under their wings. At the time I was a single parent to three young boys, 4,6,8 years old and they treated my boys as their own grandchildren. I can remember going on holiday one year and coming home to a DIY project (particularly tricky I had undertaken and was struggling with) completely finished by Brian. The Fishing trips and time spent with the boys will never be forgotten along with the "does my bum look big in this" teddy you bought me.

Blue isn't really a colour I tend to use much when crafting. I'm not sure why exactly its just when shopping for supplies blue things don't come in to my radar i guess.

Hello everyone
Wow three blog posts in under seven days! Impressed? I am!

Well My asthma's has been quite bad this week, I put it down to the change of weather but really I think its something to do with the steroids I have been taking, as soon as i finish the course that the Doctor gives me then I have a flare up and find it difficult even to walk about. But on the plus side I don't have to move about to knit and crochet! So Mr CM has been looking after me and bringing me unlimited drinks etc while I get cracking with my crafting. Good job really as Ive had lots to do. Here's a few of my makes

Hello!
On Saturday Mr CM took our nieces to Norwich City Football ground to see JLS. They were supported by Olly Murss and apparently the girls were just as excited to see him as they were JLS!
I wish I would have had uncles to take me to things like that when I was younger. In the same way watching Princess with her big brothers I would have loved a older brother as they seem so much fun!

A little of what ive been up to

Hello everyone and welcome to you all, in particular my new readers.

Today is our wedding anniversary. Much love to my Mr CM I love you dearly xx

Half term came and went in a flash here and now has me longing for the summer holidays. Princess is such a joy and I love having her home. The days whirled by in a series of meeting up with cousins and my siblings and long sunny days. the weather was wonderful last week and so we enjoyed a few meals out in the garden.

.Well finally i have finished Mothers cardigan which I had started for her for Mothers day. (you can read the saga here ) Mother loves it and says its perfect for the winter months. as she lives right out in the country it sometimes gets quite chilly in the winter so will be great for snuggling up with a cuppa.

I had my second crochet lesson this week. I have certainly got the hang of it and Joan and Heather at the wool shop have been great teachers. The first thing I made last month was a poncho for Grandbaby 2. It was simple to follow the pattern after they had showed me how. I also made one for princess for Christmas

I then made a wrap/shawl for my self for a wedding we are attending in July. I just wanted something to wrap around my shoulders to keep me warm as the night grew chilly and this is perfect. I will add photos in a later post

In between classes I thought i would have a go at making a crinoline lady type doll for my Mother-in-law. We had one made for Princess for Christmas last year and she really liked it. I have made it in the Norwich City FC colours as she is football crazy and they are her team. I hope she likes it!

At our Crochet class we were given a pattern for a Hobo Bag. it was a simple pattern and is worked all in one piece. Very pretty. I couldn't wait to get it finished and so this morning i sat and finished it.

the buying of clothes grown out of too fast,
the learning curve i have had with each of the other children,
the birthdays, christmasses, christenings and weddings,
all the things we should have shared.
the walks in the park, the scrapped knees, the freely running tears and the snotty noses
The deep and meaningful conversations and the silly banter
The thunderstorm cuddles and the cold snowy hands
these are things I miss and will never have.

Another new princess!

We have a new a princess! Our beautiful second Grandaughter was born on wednesday and she is so beautiful! I was honored to be asked to be present at the birth and it was a amazing experience. I have seen many babies born (being the eldest of ten siblings!) but i have to say I have never experienced a birth like that. The birth was beautiful and mum was so calm and totally in control! Seeing our precious grandaughter enter the world was a amazing moment. I saw a completely different side to my No. 2 son as he supported and helped DIL 2 through the labour. There love for each other brought a tear to my eye and im sure they will be a lovely family.
Mr CM is in love with yet another girl and goes all misty eyed when he holds her! Well instead of me blathering on I will leave you with some pictures of the happy event!

Crochet class Pirates of the carribean and carboot bargains

I have decided to learn to crochet.
Well I say learn, I can crochet already but found it difficult to do from a pattern (read difficult as impossible!)
. So I signed up for a class at our local wool shop with Heather and Joan. The first class was great. I had missed the first class due to being in hospital so the other ladies had already settled in. And what a lovely bunch they are. We had a great time chatting and crocheting away. There were lots of different ages and ability's there and it was chat and craft all the way with everyone helping each other out and laughing at each others attempts!
I started a crochet poncho for the new granddaughter we are waiting for (Lottie if you are reading this get a move on will you!) I was addicted to it! I couldn't wait to finish it and Mr CM had to make tea that evening as I was determined to get it finished! I'm so pleased with it and cant wait to see it on the new bubs! (again Lottie we are waiting!)
So the next day I was down the wool shop again getting a new pattern and wool to make a wrap for myself! I cant wait to finish it! We have a wedding to attend in July so I shall be using it then. I rarely make anything for my self so it will be lovely to wear one of my own creations. When its finished I will post some pictures up.

Yesterday I went to the local car boots with the family. There are two ones local to us on a Saturday and they are close to my sister and mothers houses so we get to pop in there after for a well deserved cuppa!
I found so beautiful Vintage china. A lovely jug and plate set which i did buy on separate stalls but they go together perfectly! I also bought a !970s coffee set which I loved but Mr CM made me feel guilty with exclamations of "where on earth are we going to put that everywhere is full!" so I gave it to my mother to put on her dresser as its too pretty to put away. I will add pictures later as once again blogger is doing its own thing!

To finish the day I went to the picture to see Pirates of the Carribean with my sister in law and DIL. We had a lovely time and this iscertainly a rare treat! The last time I went to the cinema it was to see the Spiderwick cronicles with my two neices! The film is brilliant. I have to say im not a huge fan of the POC films but II do like Jonny Depp and he acted his heart out in this one! Penelope Cruz takes on a good part too and is very different from other things Ive seen her do It had all the things a good film should, action, adventure, comedy, romance and twists and turns you dont expect! I wont go in to details as if you havennt seen it, it will spoil it for you. I will just say it is a must see film!

Hello there
I hope you are all enjoying the beautiful sunny weather. Im not one for extreme heat so this weather is just perfect. The only downside is that princess stays awake later and so its harder to wake her up! She is usually such a earlier riser that it usually her waking us up! Still its half-term next week so she can have some lie ins! I love half terms and always have since the boys were really small.

We are still waiting for number two grandchild. She is determind to keep us waitting. Grandad is so excited and keeps hastleing the Mum-to-be. He has the car on stand by to take them to the hospital as they dont drive and I think hes a little broody but wont admit it!

Well enough with the gossip! and on to the crafting! I thought i would try my hand at tiara making. Its something ive wanted to do for a while and Mr CM bought me this book to try out. To be honest the book was hard to follow and not really very helpful, but i found that i could learn as i went along.
Here are some of my atempts which have sold already so iI must be doing something right! Please excuse the quality of the phots but you get the general idea.

This post has taken me two days to load! When everyone in blogland was saying how much blogger had been playing up I had no problems! Now I get it!

It has been quite a while since my last post. I have been very ill with pneumonia which required a lengthy stay in hospital. To those that I owe parcels to I promise to get them off as soon as possible. One of the worse things about being in hospital is that I missed all the hype about the Royal wedding. Although my older children and littlest sister came in to the hospital to watch it on television with me and tried to make it as special as possible it wasn't the same.
We had planned to have a big family party at our house.But never mind!

Before I got too ill I took part in a craft fair with my sister who makes jewellery. Unfortunately it didn't go to well. My sales totaled £5.50 so it was a little disheartening but I don't think it was the right kind of venue to get many sales so I will try again once I feel 100%.

we now have only two weeks until our second grandchild is due. The time has just zipped past! We are all getting very excitted but the mum-to-be is just hot grumpy and tired bless her

Just to let you know I haven't run away or been whisked off to a foreign land! Ive been and still am sick!

We got home yesterday afetr a very exhusting day and waiting for me was my spring swap parcel!

Yay!!!!!! The swap was hosted by jackie at sew special bears. My swappee was Wendy from little crafting bird. And she really spoilt me! Unfortunately the only downside was that Princess waas here when I was trying to open the parcel so I didnt get to open anything and most of the parcel has been claimed as her own!

The saga of the knitted cardigan!

Where to start!
Well....as its nearly mothers day I decided to make my Mother a cardigan. As we haven't much time to go till the special day (I started it two weeks ago) I choose a pattern that was chunky knit and simple so that I could get it done in time. Perfect! you would think!

So after checking that there was some matching wool left at the wool shop I started knitting with the lovely "oh I like that" balls of wool I had bought some weeks before and not found a project for. I picked up the other wool from the shop on a shopping trip with Mr CM and brought them home. I unpacked them and left them on the kitchen worktop ready to put in my knitting pile. Then SOMEONE! (who shall evermore be nameless) Knocked them off the worktop into the washing basket.

The washing was piled on top and I loaded the washing machine the next day. You have guessed it. The newly purchased balls of wool ended up in the washing machine! to say it came out tangled is a understatement. try as i might i couldn't untangle the wool and it was put in the bin.
I rang the wool shop to see if there was anymore. I had a half finished cardigan here that had to get finished! There wasn't AAARRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHH!
So the next day I went to the shop and the lovely lady there had searched her other shop and found me some wool! Bless her heart!. So disaster over I got home and started knitting! I think I must have broken the knitting speed record to get it finished!

yay go me!

Trouble is I haven't finished it.. And Ive run out of wool. NNNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The shop wont have any till next week and then it may not be the same dye lot! I'm so disappointed I could cry.
I bought the right amount of the wool that the pattern required so I don't know what has gone wrong. So Mother will be getting the usual box of choccie and card and I have sore fingers for nothing!

Haven't we had lovely weather? (except yesterday) Its been very warm here. Warm enough to walk about with just a t-shirt on. I do like this time of the year. Warm but not hot. Everywhere you look there are flowers and blossoms. Beautiful. We live in a beautiful part of the country but rarely get to enjoy it. That is something we are determined to change this year.

Ive been busy sewing this week. Ive made two union jack cushions which are available to buy priced at £7.00 each

I made some tissue covers perfect for popping in handbags or school bags. They are Priced at £1.50 and sales from these will go to support the Japanese tsunami appeal.

I enjoyed a pamper day with my sisters yesterday. We had lots of fun. I am the eldest of ten children. Six of us are girls so with all those, Mother and then sister-in-laws and Daughters their were quite a few of us. Lots of Make up, false nails and chatter! I took lots of photos but this one is may favourite one

i love beautiful gardens

Hello everyone!
What wonderful weather we are having! Its lovely to get outside in the sunshine or to drive along with the car windows open.. We are Blessed!
Yesterday we decided it was time to give the garden a MAHOOSIVE clear out. I am ashamed to say that we have lived in this house for four years now and we still have unpacked boxes in the shed! So our plan was to empty the shed, sort the boxes and get ready to do a boot sale on Saturday. However we needed to clear the garden first. the previous owners of this house left us a lovely present of loads of junk at the bottom of the garden so that was our first job. Actually that became our only job as it took all day! Mr CM and Son no 2 took two jam packed loads to the tip (sorry recycling center) and Mrs Son 2 and I did the cosmetic work such as emptying last years pots and bagging junk. We also sorted through the shed that contains Princess' outdoor toys. it was amazing how shes grown and I have to say I had a lump in the throat moment when I saw her push along singing toy that she used to drive us crazy with!

Of course this is my pad! oh well I can dream x

Today however My back and knees tell me I did too much even though there were constant cries of "mum don't try and lift that" Mum but that down" and Mum make me a drink"!. When did my Son overtake me and start giving the orders! Thank the Lord for strong healthy sons! But the worse thing about doing the garden? we still haven't finished and Mr CM and Son 2 will be off to the Recycling center again on Friday with the huge pile of wood that we found amongst the other junk! than we can get to unpacking the sheds!
And then and only then will I beable to Take pictures and post them on here!

Btw the winning bidder for this paid a wopping £3,300.00! needless to say it was just £3,295.00 too much for my boys to buy me! :0) Maybe next time!

Its been a busy time here. It is No 2 sons 18th birthday today. I cant believe how fast the time has gone! It seems all my boys are growing up and away in the blink of a eye. No 2 likes Tarzan and its kind of a family joke so for His birthday I made him two Tarzan and Jane teddies! He was very happy with them.

I also managed to find the time to make Princess a couple of skirts

Ive also made my niece one of these for her Birthday

I love the different flowers in the fabric

And I finally finished the patchwork quilt for the baby expected in May.

The quilt has a double lining of wadding in so will be super cosy in the winter

So although Ive been busy I have plenty to show for it!

Its now the start of the car boot seasons. we went to two this week and I managed to get some lovely patch work fabric for 50p! Bargain! I also bought a tea set for my dresser, Unfortunately Mr CM managed to smash the sugar bowl and one of the cups before we got home! Oh dear! I forgive him! (plus he has promised to get a replacement!)

Princess loves car boot sales and always comes back with a dolly or two. She soon wont be able to get in to bed for all the dollies! She especially loves little dollies that will fit in her dolls house. She also collects care bears so there are a fair few of them here as well!

Challenge 52 2011 week nine!

Week Nine? Erm....... I seem to have lost some weeks! Never mind from the list of my makes on my side bar then I am definitely ahead of my self!
I have been busy knitting away making a blanket for my new Grand baby due in May this year. I have finally finished. Thankfully! it was very repetitive and I don't know why i started it really as I knew it was! I finished Knitting it at the weekend and sat last night sewing the fleece backing on it. Its super cosy and I know it will keep babe warm in the pram. Babies Mummy doesn't drive so she walks quite a lot and this will be perfect for keeping warm and cosy. I choose these colours as the ultrasound cant be 100% that she is in fact a she. So if She is a He then it can still be used!

This week i managed to pick up a copy of this magazine..

The much searched for magazine!

It has been so hard to get. Probably due to the fact that everyone I speak to is raving about it. It has some really good articles in it and unlike many magazines, it covers a multitude of crafts. I have post it notes sticking out of many pages marking projects I would like to try. I really want to try the cushion covers on the front but as I have never cabled before maybe I am being a little ambitious? lets just see if I ever have time to create something that needs my undivided attention! I will give this Magazine a better review during the week.

Coleen Nolan - Envy

 - This has been my latest read. I am a fan of Coleen and was really looking forward to reading this book.
It is basically the story of TV presenters (sounds familiar?) Its quite well written with good descriptions of the characters. The problem is I found that there where too many characters and their lives are so complicated that its hard to follow the storyline and keep up with whats happening. Basically its about the in-house fighting and the battle over who will land the "Good Morning Britain" presenter job. The women battle over the career opportunity and its left till the end to see just which one will be lucky enough to land the sought over position. Written in a one character, one chapter format it was too much for me to cope with and I struggled to keep up with the plot.
. Even so I give this book a .................
7/10 a good read but very complicated!

Its the first of march today and so its St Davids day in Wales. Happy st Davids day to all my Welsh friends and readers!

At the moment this is Princesses favourite song. she likes to watch it before going to sleep and its a fun song for little ones to remember what to do before bedtime! The only thing is I cant get the tune out of my head and end up singing it all day! Well better to be singing that than not be singing at all!
Its a fun bouncy tune and I wish more music aimed at our children was as innocent as this!

Half term week Vintage finds, birthday cake and makes!

Hello everyone
A special hello to my new readers who have come on board in the last couple of weeks. Its been half term week here. We have had a pretty relaxed week really.
Mr CM was recovering from his Kidney stone flare up so we spent a lot of time at home. On Wednesday we went shopping in Lowestoft town. We took a trip to The High Street and visited the antique and charity shops. Princess bought a cameo brooch from A antique shop for £2.00 and was very pleased with her find. I visited the Salvation Army Shop and bought a lovely storage box with handles which after a clean up was perfect as a sewing box to hold all my lovely WIPs of patchwork.
I also picked up two sets of six arm chair covers one with a lace border and one with a beautiful flower design on them. Mr CM isn't happy about having them on the armchairs so I will use them in another project.

At the weekend we visited Mr CMs parents. We took along our Nephew so Princess would have someone to keep her company. It was my Mother-in-laws Birthday on Sunday so we had a little tea party for Grandma. Chocolate cake all round! We had a lovely time and as usual Grandma spoilt us all!

Earlier in the week I spent the afternoon with my daughter in law sewing and making bump bands. She is seven months pregnant and wants to keep the bump covered so we made the bands to go under her usual t-shirts so her tummy doesn't poke out and get cold. In the summer I saw it seemed to be the fashion for pregnant ladies to wear little tops and have their tummy's poking out on display. Now don't get me wrong I think that a pregnant woman is a beautiful thing to behold and I love to see "blooming" ladies but please cover up! Anyway I will post some photos of the bum bands soon.

Challenge 52 week 6

So this week has not really gone to plan. I didn't post my Valentines swap in time so felt terribly guilty when it didn't arrive at my swappers in time for valentines. (although she was very understanding, thanks Jenna x)

Mr CM had a stay in hospital due to his recurring Kidney stones OUCHIE! and I have been feeling quite down lately. I think its a mixture of My medication being changed and the middle son leaving home.

I had planned to go to church today as I desperately need some christian friendship at the moment but with Mr CM being poorly that didn't work out. This is our church

Then again on the positive side I have made a couple new online crafty friends, did a little crafting, half term has started and I treated my self to some union jack fabric which i have cushion making plans for! Pink for my chair and traditional for Mr CMs.

So here's this weeks makes.


This is a canvas that I've covered with African print fabric and beads. I love the big bold colours that come out in the African prints. I haven't found a home for this yet but its likely it will reside in our stairway!

I have also made a matching picture frame using the same technique and fabric, I cant show it here as its a present for someone! Once the person has received it i will add some pictures

I also covered some notebooks to give as presents.I got this idea of using vintage pictures off another blog but cant remember who's! If its you please get in touch so I can add a link to your work!

I'm also working on the Blanket that was in Lets Knit February edition.

I cant find a link for the pattern but its in here!
Its taking ages but I guess that's to be expected when I only really knit for a hour or so in the evening if I have time. It is for our new Grandbaby due in May so it should be finished by then! Im doing it in pastal colours as we are not 100% sure on the gender but have been told 75% it will be a girl! Still better to be safe than sorry!

Ive just finished reading this book.
Now I have to say that because of the title it is something that I wouldn't usually pick and read but this has turned out to be a great.
at read. Struggling with a new baby and a recent house move to a new town the writer lets us into her life and the results are hilarious! Anyone wanting to put a smile on their face should definitely give this a read!

Mr C-M and I have planned a night of DVDs and cuddles for tonight! No 3 son is taking care of the Princess so we can watch our films in peace and quiet! Valentines Day is a funny day isn't it? Its the day when we show our love and appreciation for our loved one. The thing is I hope that I do that everyday and even if I don't tell Mr C-M how much I love him everyday , that I show it in many different ways, everyday. There are many different ways to show love. So Mr C-M if you are reading this I love you! LOTS!

Challenge 52 week five and Charity shop finds!

We had a family birthday again this week. It was my nieces birthday and she was four. I made her a bag and put some necklaces and children's rings inside. She loved it and said she will use it for school! The bag is made out of calico, very similar to the bags for life in the supermarkets. I decorated it with a hexagon patch I had left over from a project I'm working on.

One of my favourite things to do when I have a free afternoon (which doesn't happen very often!) is to go and look around the Charity shops. it is amazing the things I find there! This wee Mr CM and I went Charity shop shopping or as we call it OP-shopping!
We had a lovely time browsing a local high street and had lunch out together alone! That happens so rarely I can not remember the last time we did it!
Any way...... here are some of our finds

A small wicker basket for the bathroom. Our bathroom is very small so this is the perfect size for there

A trifle bowl and kilner jar. Now there are only four of us at home I needed a smaller bowl for making deserts. This one fits the bills perfectly! It needed a good clean but after a run through the dishwasher it was sparkling like new!

All this and I spent the grand total of £6.50! How cool is that!
While we were out Mr CM treated me to this!

Ive been looking for something like this since seeing one similar on Kirsties Homemade Homes. It has been put right at the top of my stairs so you see it as soon as you enter the house! I love it!

I love vintage teacups!!

Its no secret I love Vintage Teacups and Saucers or even Tea Sets. I also like to drink my tea out of one, Much to the amusement of my Family and Friends. I think there is nothing better than drinking a good quality tea out of a china cup.

My collection is growing and I get some lovely finds in the charity shops. Recently I bought a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee plate and cup from a local charity shop for £5.00. What a bargain! I was so pleased. I find now when we go to jumble sales and carboot sales I am trawling them for crockery. Retro, Vintage or just plain pretty.

Its so ladylike to use a cup and saucer, (if a little Mrs Bucket!)

So intend to and any lady who comes to my home will be offered a cup and saucer to drink their tea from. I do it and I intend to teach my Daughter and Grand-daughters to do the same.

I can hardly believe that its February already!
this week Son No.2 has finally removed all his things from the house. So hes officially moved out. Its sad in one way but in another I'm proud that they are making their own lives now.

I also feel I have to make a complaint about Asda Ice cream. The one below has been on sale at our local Asda for the royal sum of £1.00. Far, far too cheap! Being this cheap allowed me to add Two pots to my trolley this week. It tricks you into thinking its a normal Chocolate ice cream. but once you open it up....... Its got you! It makes you believe that you just have to eat it with a spoon straight from the carton, to save on washing up a bowl, and before you know it, while watching Lark rise to Candleford you have eaten the whole pot! Even worse..... It comes in about five delicious flavours! Naughty me and shame on the diet!

Ive been busy making patchwork bags. I have decided this year to boycott wrapping paper and plastic shopping bags and so Ive been making smaller ones for gift giving and larger ones for shopping. Here's a couple of the ones Ive made

More poppiness!

I love taking pictures of our little Poppy-dog!
She is a cross between a Yorkshire terrier and Chihuahua parents that both belong to my sister. Born in February 2010, She was somewhat of a surprise having been conceived within a hour of her mother arriving at my sisters house! Definitely not planned! She was the only surviving puppy from five siblings and originally went to live with my Mother. Unfortunately Mothers dog didn't get on with her and attacked her quite badly so she came to live with us to recuperate and we ended up adopting her. She has lived here since July and settled in with us nicely. Such a sorry start for her! Our nineteen year old Yorkshire terrier Jessie-dog took to her like having a baby in the house and they were firm friends. Unfortunately Jessie-dog passed away in October and I think Poppy misses her as much as we do. Don't tell her but early in March we have a friend coming to live with us! Her name is Rosie and she is a Terrier. We cant wait to add her to our family and I'm sure Rosie and Poppy will become firm friends!

Princess loves Strawberry Shortcake. When we went fabric shopping at a shop that's just opened near us, she spotted some strawberry fabric and was delighted with it! So we bought some and some calico and made her a rag doll. It was my fist attempt at making one but I'm quite pleased with the results. The face looks a little strange and the eyes are lopsided but Princess loves her and took her to school for show and tell today.

Yay I'm on time!

This week I seen my second Son leave home to set up home with his Girlfriend. Its a bittersweet time as most mothers know. The joy at one less teenager in the house, One less set of washing each day, extra time for me. on the other hand, One less person living here, giving me a hug, giving me a smile. Still life goes on and the world turns.

We have a little Doggie called Poppy. When our Beautiful Jessie-Dog passed away Poppy pined for her and became very attached to our Daughter. Now when ever Princess goes out then Poppy sits on the back of the sofa and windowsill waiting for her to come home! And you know what? That dawg can tell the time! At three O'clock everyday faithfully, she takes up her station on her cushion waiting for Daddy to return with the Princess! When they return, What a reunion! you would think they hadn't seen each other for weeks instead of hours! I love the way dogs are so faithful to their owners.

So crafting time.......

It was my Nieces birthday and she is a avid swimmer so i decided to make her a swim bag. I didn't have a lot of time so made it as simple as possible. I bought a new towel and removed the trimming. Added some teddy bear fabric and a handle and finished! The beauty of this bag is that it can be used as a extra towel to dry herself and then bunged in the washing machine when she gets home from swimming with no messing about! Quick and easy to make and a really practical present.

Hospital appointments and all that jazz!

Hello everyone and I hope you are keeping well x
Today we had a hospital appointment at our hospital. Our youngest has a slight turn in her eyes which needs attention so after waiting for five months for a appointment we were finally seen. The clinic was running being which meant we were waiting for four hours. (how I wish I had taken my knitting!) Not that I'm complaining about that. They are busy and do a great job so a little wait has become something we all expect. What my gripe is, is that while we sat there I overheard a conversation between a Doctor and receptionist saying that twelve people had either cancelled or DNA (did not attend) for that morning session. Now I know that emergency's crop up and life doesn't always go to plan BUT Twelve! I urge people to think very carefully before they cancel a appointment on the day its for. Waiting lists are so long that this would surely shorten them if the appointment could be offered to someone else? We have a Nation Health Service which is free unlike many other parts of the world. Its struggling as it is . Why not give them a helping hand?
Any hoo........... That's my thought of the day!

Challenge 2011 Week 3

Oh dear......................

Its only the third week into the challenge and I'm behind! Although I have been into hospital for some tests so I guess just this time I am excused!
We recently bought a 1940s child's chair from ebay. We paid the bargain price of £4.99! I was so pleased with it. Although it was rather battered I see a great future ahead of it. Not only for Princess but for our subsequent Grandchildren and (God willing) Great-Grandchildren.
It desperately needed recovering but finances being a little tight at the moment we couldn't afford it. BUT.... Then I was looking through my fabric stash and I found some fabric I had bought on a whim about two years ago. It was perfect so i just had to use it. the chair is now suitable to be on public display and has pride of place in our lounge! Perfect!

We just love it. Its a temporary covering until we win the lottery and it can be covered by a professional with Cath Kidston fabric. Ohhh sounds lovely doesn't it?

week 2 challenge 52 2011

Hello again and welcome to my new blog readers as well as those who have been reading for while.

We are starting to feel better her at crafty mum towers but have been left with a shocking cough. Still after reading the news with all of the cases of swine flu about we are thankful that we are all recovering well.

This week I have been busy making a few items.


mug rug

Firstly I made a mug rug (fancy name for a coaster) for one of the lovely ladies whom i am doing a birthday swap with. I made it using a old pair of jeans and corduroy trousers of my daughters. there is even a special pouch for biscuits!

Then I made some hair accessories to put in my handmade gift box/pile

These were made using some felt remnants from Christmas decorations.


A little beaded purse/ handbag. Again for the gift pile. This was made using the leg from a old pair of Princesses jeans. I'm doing well sticking to the recycling theme so far this year!

Then finally Mr bought me a beautiful cup cake stand for Christmas. It has pride of place on my new dresser (pictures to follow) I felt like it needed a mat or runner to sit on so Ive made a little cup cake runner/mat for it to sit on. Oh course this also had to be cup caked themed!

Back to school blues

So Princess went off to school today all excited with a big smiley face! But this is me

I always feel a little sad when the holidays are over. Mind you its not like she and the rest of the family haven't left enough for me too do! As a extra Christmas present DH bought me a welsh style dresser to be a home for my teacup and saucer collection, Its a super piece of furniture but I've had to move the kitchen around to accommodate it. So I thought while I'm doing that I may as well completely spring clean the kitchen!

WHY!!!!!!!!!!

Am I completely silly! I'm now halfway through and needed a cuppa and a break! There is so much stuff! there is enough to furnish three kitchens! I really must stop hording things and trust that when I am in need of something then God will provide the perfect item at the perfect time. I'm down sizing EVERYTHING!!! Mugs how many do we actually use? Casserole dishes? I always end up using the same old faithful ones. Pudding bowls? Not one but two, TWO!! breadmakers! Far far too many. so its all got to go. Ive just put a advert on free cycle and hopefully someone can make use of them to stop them going in landfill.

So room one (kitchen) and room two ( utility room) are the target for today. Tomorrow? who knows!

Week one!

Happy 2011 Everyone!
So after running around after everyone in the family who was ill throughout Christmas I finally caught their Flu virus! Feel like a sickly pants so my first offering is something I put the finishing stitches in just after midnight on NYE!

Its knitted door flag/banner for my nephews bedroom door. Bit of a poor offering to start the challenge off but I hope you understand. Its hard to craft while constantly blowing your nose and feeling awful. I'm hoping next week will be more thrilling!

Last post of the year 2010

So its the last post of the year, I'm sat at home just my doggie and I to see in the new year. After caring for the family for the Christmas period and nursing them all through the flu virus they have all had one after the other since Christmas Eve, eve. I caught it myself! S they have all gone off partying and poppy and I are curled up with a Irish coffee and a book I treated my self to with a little Christmas gift I received

its a really good book and the price is great! if you buy from play.com you don't pay postage which is great! this book only cost me £2.49 brand new! its great for a beginner and has plenty of patterns to work through.

I also bought this book home made gifts

Again a simple book with some great ideas.
I have 30 nieces and nephews and have decided to hand make all of them something for their birthdays next year. Its a big challenge but I'm determined to do as many as possible. Its part of my bow out to the consumerist society that we live in. I reached this decision while shopping in our local Tescos on December 26th and there were Easter eggs and Valentine gifts on sale! Madness! What was even worse was that people were buying them! There was one lady who must have had at least 10 Easter eggs in her basket! I refuse! to bow to the pressure of " buying" and "having to have" any longer

Part of my new beginners this year is to make a simpler life, a Handmade, homemade life. Getting involved with a Eco- friendly lifestyle that up until now i have been half heartily attempting. Do8ing my bit to make the world a safer cleaner environment. One of my projects is to reuse bags. To refuse plastic bags at the counter and make sure I'm always carrying a reusable bag so it cuts down on pollution.
Wow now i read that back it all seems so much but it isn't really. little changes in my life to help everyone. Its not much of a sacrifice is it?

Yummy Christmas day breakfast.

It went as quickly as it came! our Christmas was very subdued this year as five of the six people living here have managed to catch the winter flu virus! Christmas day was spent at my younger brothers house with his family and another of my younger brothers family. They both have young children so its great to be around them all at this time of year. My brother and his wife made us a beautiful dinner and we were totally spoilt so a big thanks to them!

My poor DH sat in the corner in his PJ's and dressing gown. Bless him he was too poorly to even get dressed and is still in bed now!

As for Christmas pressies? Well i was totally stunned! I had vouchers off No 1 son and his girlfriend (to put towards a new food mixer i have been longing for. A beautiful cake stand and pasta bowls from DH, perfume off No 3 son and chocolate from princess and no 2 son and girlfriend! I was really blessed.
One of my favourite presents was from my mother. she knitted me a mini stocking filled with smellies
thanks mum! its very rare I get a handmade gift so I was very pleased to receive this.

I also got to give mother the lap rug i had made for her. i crochet red and black stripes, lined with a black fleece and added pockets. The pockets are to hold her remote control glasses and choccies when she is watching TV. She lives right out in the country and it gets cold in the evenings so I'm hoping that it will help keep her warm and cosy!

The last picture is of a very happy princess with her gift from her Grandma and Grandad. She loves soft toys and REALLY loves soft snuggly ones like this! His name is chunky. In fact this has been a regular addition to our bed since Christmas day! As we co-sleep this is getting a squash! But he is very soft and snug!

So in little over 48 hours it will be the big day itself! I am looking back and remembering lots of things I've done this year and things that happened in our family. all in all I believe we are blessed and I thank God for that.
I am also sparing a thought for those less fortunate than us. In particular the elderly, housebound, people who are lonely and the homeless. To be homeless in this freezing weather must be awful and I remember them in my prayers

To all my friends new and old, in real life and "tinternet land" I wish you a merry Christmas and a blessed and happy new year xx

Mother in laws christmas pressie!

As the time is ticking away I have had to get cracking with making my handmade presents.
My In laws are big Norwich City football club fans and they attend virtually every Game. So with that in mind I decided to make my mother in law some wrist warmers and woolly socks to keep her cosy in the cold weather.

Princess also bought Grandma a teddy for Christmas. So that's one persons presents done just 15 more to go!

Its such a joy to be a Grandparent. I didn't realise how much love I could have for a child which isn't technically mine. But she is such a joy and we cant wait till May when she will be joined by a cousin! 2011 is going to be a fun year, watching our newest princess grow and welcoming a new life into our family.

About a year ago I started to make a patch work quilt. This is the first time I have attempted to create something as big as this but I really wanted one! Now after twelve months work on and off I have finally completed this project! Its not a moment too soon with all this snowy weather. perfect for snuggling under with The Princess! (although Last night Mr and our doggie poppy were tucked up under it!)

As promised yesterday here are the tree decorations I've been busy working on too!

Some will be given as presents and the other are for our tree. All in all I'm feeling very pleased with my self and christmassy!

crafting in the snow!

Well as the weather has been so cold I decided to hibernate and work on some crafts!
Ive been pretty busy!

Frstly I made some needle cases

Then I finished a wall hanging that I've been working on for what seems likes months! This is a gift from my family to our church. They have been very supportive to us and I wanted to show how grateful we are.

I also had time to make a cat patchwork cushion and a glasses case

and finally I made a heart mobile. I love mobiles and had some left over material so I thought why not!

Tomorrow I intend to make some tree decorations. we are hoping to put the tree up this weekend and decorate the house so some I shall keep to use and The others will be up for sale. CHRISTMAS!!!!! only 24 days away!

Today we woke up to a beautiful blanket of snow here! we don't get much snow here in the UK and definitely not as early on in the season as this. My hopes for a white Christmas have been raised!

There is something truly magical about the thought of a white Christmas. I do so hope we can have one. Speaking of Christmas, I'm halfway through making two presents at the moment. I decided to make Mother a pair of socks and wrist warmers for Christmas. I have made her woolly warm socks before and she really like them. she lives out in the country and her house can get pretty cold at times. she even wears them to bed! Anyway instead of the usual patten (using two pins) I decided to use a different pattern using four pins. I Have only used the four pin technique once before for a really simple square shaped bag in chunky wool. Well using this technique for socks didn't turn out to be such a good idea! i have really struggled and have unravelled my work four times! But finally I have managed to FINISH ONE!
I cant post a picture just yet as Mother reads this blog but I just hope she appreciates all the hard work Ive put in!

I have been reading a series of books by Conn Iggulden. they are the story of Genghis Khan, not my usual type of read.
I stumbled across these when looking for something else!
I'm on book two of the series and I am really enjoying them. As i said before these are a type of book i would walk past in a book shop (mostly because of the design on the front that suggests to me that it is a mans book) and its made me think of the old saying.... Don't judge a book by its cover!

I made this for a friend of ours last week. The top is sponge and the bottom is rich fruit cake. I had a rather good response. Our friends husband emailed me to say that they were very pleased. I love to hear from people how they have enjoyed my cakes.

Just a crazy moment in our week!

Hi there
We had visitors come for tea this week at very short notice. I guess its happened to all of us. I was totally unprepared and at a loss as to what to make for tea! So i decided to make one of our family favourites. Homemade pizza slices.
They are as easy as pie to make and take such a short time for preparation and cooking that you still have time to enjoy and chat to your guests! They are also so easy to make that they are perfect for a child's cooking time!

Ingredients

fresh bread
pasta sauce
mozzarella cheese
pepperoni slices (or topping of choice)

first slice the whole loaf into fairly chunky slices
spread on pasta sauce to each slice.
top with the cheese and topping
add salt/pepper/chili to taste

cook in a moderate oven for 30 mins,
serve and enjoy!

I recently made a christening cake for my niece read about it here
They gave me a box of chocolate orange as a present and its been sat in my fridge willing me to use it! In fact Im sure I heard it shout to me once!

Picture for readers overseas who may not know what I'm talking about!

Now people who know me will know how hard it is for me to resist chocolate! In fact you maybe surprised that after all this time it is still in my fridge!
However it was and today was the day to use it. i made a chocolate orange cake! It lasted all of three minutes before my husband saw it and cut himself a piece! Never mind.
It was good while it lasted!

Here is the cake and I have to say it tastes fantastic! Yum!

I under cooked it slightly to keep it moist and only added the topping to the top of the cake otherwise i think it would have been too sickly. Its definitely a hit with the family!

Ive just finished reading this latest book of Dan Browns. I couldn't finish it quick enough!
It has the usual symbol solving problems and a amazing twist towards the end. It focuses on the Masons rather than the church and gives a insight to their inner workings. After reading all of Dans books i have to say, this one is by far the best! I'm hoping this one also becomes a film. Go on treat yourself!

Christening or 1st birthday cake

I have been busy making my niece her christening cake. My sister asked for pink,pink and more pink! so here it is!

I hope she likes it. it took me hours to decorate it! and I'm really pleased with the result!
I decided to base it on a baby crib. (or moses basket) The hardest part was getting the hood to stand up. But once Id got that sorted it was pretty plain sailing really. A beautiful cake for a beautiful little girl!

I'm noticing it, the children are noticing it, even the dogs are noticing it!
summer is becoming autumn here in the UK.
My husband and I were driving at 8.30 in the morning yesterday and we both commented on the weather. How it is dark when we get up now and how the cold is creeping in! And you know what? I love it! autumn and winter are my favourite seasons! i love cosing up in side with my family while the rain batters down outside. to be lovely and cosy is one of the God given pleasures that I enjoy to the max!
A little pleasure but one of the ones i enjoy the most!

The thing I love about home schooling our children is that everything is a learning experience.
Today while preparing dinner I spent a lovely time with Princess shelling peas. We talked about how they grow and the different tastes from different sized peas. How smaller peas always seem to taste sweeter and how different freshly podded peas taste from the tinned variety. everything is education!

Recently Princess and I went shoe shopping. We were looking for a pair of nice of shoes for winter wear. You know the sort, black, flat with a strap across the front. Just a normal pair. We went to a local big shoe shop. i cant name them but lets just say they are in Great Yarmouth and have recently opened!!!!

So....... Princess and I went shoe hunting. We went to the section for her size and found one pair of the previous mentioned shoes. but lots of pairs of these!

Now..... maybe i will be seen as old fashioned here BUT I don't care! I for one do not want my five year old clomping around in these! She is a little girl and as such she should dress as one! never mind the damage to her back and feet, what about the impression that it gives her! One that she should be dressed up like a lady or young Lolita? I totally disagree with the idea that our precious daughters should dress up in this way and I for one definitely will not be buying such items for her!

I have just finished reading this book and felt I had to recommend it.
I don't usually have the time to read fiction books but was given this to read by a friend. the thing was i absolutely could not put it down. The story starts off a little slow but once it gets going its brilliant! I am now reading the second book in the series and I'm at chapter 7. I have to say that that so far its just as good. I thoroughly recommend it.

hello everyone.
I have decided to close my other blog down and to just concentrate on this one instead.

Ive decided to branch out a little and try my hand at celebration cake making.

ive tried to make as many differing designs as possible and wanted to share a few here.

I even managed to get my daughter-in-law interested too!

here she is with her beautiful design. It went down a storm at church!

we are homeschoolers!
we recieved a letter yesterday confirming our request to remove our younger son from the school register so we can home educate!
this is a exciting period in our life and im looking forward to the exciting, hardworking and learning experience that will be our families life for the next few years!
we pray that God will give us the strength and wisdom to complete this task x

so................ after much thought and alot of prayer we have decided to home school our remaining two children.
we are aware of the huge commitment that this will take and the dedication we will have to show towards their education. but you know what? we are excited about this stage of our lives.

we have decided to join a organiation called http://www.christian-education.org/teach.html it is predominatly christian in its basic so it falls in with our beliefs and our values so it is perfect!

i will keep you up to date with the different stages in our development and growth. i say our as it is learning curve for us all. we will all learn from each other.

perfect home vs sticky fingers

Have you ever had that time when the door knocks and at the door is someone you havent seen for ages is there. you smile as you are glad to see them, then.................... you get that stomache dropping feeling when you realise you havent dusted or hoovered and they will be expecting to come on in!

well thats the feeling i dont want anymore. i want to have housework done and dusted, shopping done, tea prepared and a cake in the oven (like the perfect 50s housewife) at all times.

but then princess wants to get the paints out or play a game. No 2 or 3 sons blunder through the door and drop everything as they go.asking for food or clothes etc as they go. Number 1 son rings as he needs something or the other, and all my organising goes out of the window!

but when they have all left home and there is no mess to clean, no smiling faces as they demolish the last slice of cake, no PE kits to wash or football boots to trip over. what then? will i relish the clean sterile atmosphere of our home? will i love the fact that the washing machine goes on only twice a week and the hoovering is always done?
no i will miss the handprints and sticky finger prints. all the stuff that comes with a family,
maybe I dont want the perfect house after all!

The shack

i recently finished reading this book.
i must say it was amazing! it shows how God will reach people where they are at to bring them home.
i cant go into too much detail because it will spoil the book but it is a totally recommended read! it sure blessed me!
